The construction of a mine water treatment facility, which included building reinforced concrete, cast in-situ balancing tanks and settlement lagoons at the National Coal Mining Museum for England.
The construction and formation of reed beds, access tracks was also carried out together with surface water drainage including the diversion of an existing beck and the erection of security fencing.
The presence of great crested newts and badgers had been identified on the site and suitable arrangements were required.
Other hazards considered in the environmental risk assessments included ground water discharge, diesel spillage, waste disposal, subsidence, local community, archaeology, noise and dust emissions and bats.
This project was Runner-up in the Design and Innovation Category of the RICS Pro-Yorkshire Awards 2004.
