The Project

Construction of a 11,000m2 waste cell with associated drainage and permanent capping of 22,000m2 with associated drainage and construction of a high level access road.

Cell - The cell was excavated and brought to formation using site won material. A 500mm thick layer of imported clay was laid on the base and sideslopes and overlain with a 2mm HDPE and an HPS 19 protector geotextile. A 300mm layer of leachate drainage stone and associated drainage pipework was laid on top of the geotextile. The North batter was overlain by a 7S250 pozidrain weighted by tyres.

Capping - Waste was trimmed and covered with 300mm stabilisation soils, 1mm textured LLDPE was laid and covered with a HPS 4 protector geotextile. The geotextile was overlain with a 300mm thick layer of restorations soils followed by a 700mm thick layer of subsoil mixed with peat. Corcertina boots were also constructed around gas and leachate pipework upstands and surface drainage works were required to drain the surface.

High Level Access Road - The road was built over a previously capped area by using site won stone to formation and imported road stone to the running surface. Gas and leachate pipework was culverted as the works progressed. Side protection measures were incorporated into the works.
