Kirkby Household Waste Recycling Centre complete

Cheetham Hill Construction has completed the design and construction of a new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Knowsley, Merseyside.

The £1.1million project for client Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) commenced in September 2011.

The work scope included approximately 3000m3 of cut and fill earthworks, 5400m2 of concrete and tarmac hard standing areas, 120m of reinforced concrete retaining walls, rainwater harvesting facilities, 1080m2 of structural steel canopy, 420m2 structural steel recycling building, construction of a welfare office and landscaping works.

This new HWRC has the capacity to receive up to 15,000 tonnes of householders' waste and recyclable materials each year.

MRWA and Veolia Environmental Services officially opened the facility to the public on Monday 14th May.
