As part of the works at Broadway Green, CHC have been modifying the Eaves Lane Junction on the A663, a very busy route on the Highways England network. The scope of the works include:
- Widening the carriageway
- Creating new islands and footpaths
- Modernising the permanent traffic signal infrastructure
CHC had to provide a complex temporary traffic light solution that would maintain existing traffic flow and pedestrian access. CHC needed a system that would be flexible to adapt to construction phases and be reliable.
TfGM urban traffic control department controlled SRLs Urban64 system and monitored it for fault reporting. This is the first time the system has been used by CHC and Highways England on the Area 10 network. The system controlled a key route to and from Manchester adjacent to the busy M60 motorway.
Works had to be undertaken in phases with lane closures on the A663 only permitted at night.
Kerblines had to be amended to facilitate additional right turn lanes and splitter islands re-modelled. This required services to be diverted as necessary.
New ducting, pedestrian guard rails, pedestrian crossing points, traffic lights and surfacing works were undertaken whilst keeping traffic disruption to a minimum.
The temporary traffic lights have now been removed and all the works are complete.
